Portable Optical Metrology for Large & Demanding Measurements

The Metrology Kit brings high-accuracy photogrammetry to the workshop, production line, laboratory, outdoor site, or other locations where a traditional fixed CMM may be impractical.

01

Up to 2-Micron Point Accuracy

The Professional version delivers point-based measurement accuracy (RMS) down to 0.002 mm + 0.005 mm/m.

02

High Volumetric Accuracy

Professional length measurement accuracy reaches 0.015 mm + 0.015 mm per meter of measured length.

03

Standalone Optical CMM

Use the system independently for dimensional measurement, CAD comparison, fixture inspection, roundness, and deformation analysis.

04

3D Scanner Referencing

Combine photogrammetry reference data with dense 3D scans to reduce accumulated error across large objects.

05

Dynamic Referencing

Measure accurately even when the object or surrounding environment is not completely static.

06

Artec Studio Integration

The Metrology Kit plugin integrates photogrammetry and 3D scanning into a single Artec Studio workflow.

What Can the Metrology Kit Do?

  • Roundness, sheet-metal, fixture, and dimensional inspection
  • Deformation and tolerance analysis
  • CAD comparison and part alignment
  • 3D process analysis and testing
  • Photogrammetric reference networks
  • Large-object scanner referencing
  • High-accuracy distance measurement
  • Automotive chassis and sensor-position measurement
  • Wind-energy, aerospace, rail, offshore, and industrial measurement

Typical Metrology Workflow

1. Prepare: Apply coded and uncoded targets, reference bars, and the required scale bars around the measurement object.

2. Capture: Photograph the target network systematically from multiple heights and viewing angles.

3. Process: Import the images into Artec Studio with the Metrology Kit plugin to calculate 3D target coordinates and generate the reference point cloud.

4. Measure or scan: Use the cloud for inspection and dimensional analysis, or combine it with 3D scanner data for high-accuracy large-object capture.

Professional vs. Entry Metrology Kit

Artec offers two versions. Professional is designed for the highest accuracy and more demanding environments; Entry provides a lower-cost configuration for less demanding engineering applications.

Increase 3D Scanning Accuracy Over Distance

Photogrammetry lets you preserve global dimensional accuracy while a handheld scanner captures fine local surface detail.

Large Objects, Fine Detail

Use smaller-field-of-view scanners on much larger parts without giving up the scanner's detailed local resolution.

Up to 14× Higher Volumetric Accuracy

Artec states that the Professional Kit can improve volumetric accuracy by up to 3× over a 1-meter scan and 14× across 15 meters compared with scanner-only workflows.

Unified Artec Studio Workflow

Import photogrammetry images, calculate reference clouds, align scanner data, combine scanners, and create the final model in one environment.

Compatible With Inspection & Metrology Software

The Metrology Kit is designed to fit into professional industrial measurement workflows.

Artec Studio

Run the integrated photogrammetry + 3D scanning workflow using the dedicated Metrology Kit plugin.

Geomagic Control X

Use photogrammetry and 3D scan data for dimensional inspection, CAD comparison, and reporting.

PolyWorks

Bring measured points and 3D scan data into comprehensive dimensional analysis and quality-control workflows.

Artec Metrology Kit Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about accuracy, photogrammetry, inspection, scanners, software, dynamic referencing, Entry vs. Professional, and pricing.

What is the Artec Metrology Kit?
It is a portable optical coordinate measuring and photogrammetry system for high-accuracy industrial inspection, deformation analysis, testing, measurement, and 3D scanner referencing.
How accurate is the Artec Metrology Kit?
The Professional version provides point-based RMS accuracy up to 0.002 mm + 0.005 mm/m and length measurement accuracy up to 0.015 mm + 0.015 mm/m.
What is the difference between the Professional and Entry versions?
Professional uses a 30.3 MP camera and provides higher point and length measurement accuracy. Entry uses a 20.2 MP camera and is designed for less demanding engineering applications.
Can the Metrology Kit be used without a 3D scanner?
Yes. It can operate as a standalone optical coordinate measurement solution for inspection, CAD comparison, dimensional measurements, deformation analysis, and related applications.
Why combine photogrammetry with a 3D scanner?
Photogrammetry provides highly accurate global reference coordinates over long distances, while a 3D scanner supplies dense local surface geometry. Combining them reduces accumulated dimensional error on large objects.
Which Artec scanners can be used with the Metrology Kit?
The Kit can be used as a reference system for Artec scanners including handheld systems such as Artec Leo, Eva, Space Spider, and metrology workflows using other compatible scan data.
Can it measure moving objects?
Dynamic referencing allows measurements to remain accurate in workflows where the part or environment may move, making the system useful on production lines and other unstable measurement setups.
What industries use the Artec Metrology Kit?
Applications include automotive, aerospace, general manufacturing, wind energy, rail, offshore engineering, R&D, defense, and other industrial measurement fields.
What software works with the Metrology Kit?
It integrates directly with Artec Studio through the Metrology Kit plugin and is compatible with professional software including Geomagic Control X and PolyWorks.
How do I get Artec Metrology Kit pricing?
