For the Artec Eva / Spider / Space Spider

General information

We are sometimes asked if our scanners are compatible with USB 3.0 and actually the answer is yes.

Originally our scanners were designed with USB 2.0 support. USB 3.0 is backward compatible with USB 2.0, so our scanners are compatible with USB 3.0 as well.

To go into deeper technical details, we should mention that in some USB 3.0 controllers USB 2.0 is supported in emulation mode. So in fact the compatibility depends on the quality of implementation of such emulation on particular chipset.

How to check chipset manufacturer

To check your chipset manufacturer and series, you need to open Windows Device Manager and expand section Universal Serial Bus controllers:

Important issues to keep in mind:

  • For the best performance we recommend to install the latest drivers for Artec scanners (which are included in Artec Studio version 9.2.5.4 and Artec Studio 10)
  • We have heard from some of our clients that discontinued scanners (Artec MHT, MH, S, L, M) may work with USB 3.0, though officially we recommend USB 2.0 for these devices.

Driver updates

Please keep in mind that in some cases the update of chipset drivers may be required.
